Deduct zakat each year
Takes zakat on the whole value once a year, the cautious method. Paying on long-term shares by the company’s zakatable assets would be less.
Projected value

Enter an amount and your assumed yearly return.

Everything is calculated in your browser from the figures you enter; nothing is stored or sent. Scholars differ on some of these rules, so treat the result as a careful estimate and ask a qualified scholar for a personal ruling. Information only, not investment advice. Rules last checked 2 November 2026.

How the projection works

Each month’s amount is added at the start of the month and grows at the yearly return you enter, compounded monthly. If you choose to deduct zakat, 2.5% of the whole value (2.577% for a solar year) is taken out at the end of each year.

It is a steady-rate projection. Real markets rise and fall, and the order of good and bad years changes the outcome. Use it to compare plans, not to predict a figure.

Build it on screened companies

Growth is only halal if the holdings are. Check them with the portfolio checker or the screener.

Questions

Is compound growth halal?
Growth from owning shares in permissible businesses is profit from trade and ownership, not interest. What is prohibited is a guaranteed return on lent money. This calculator models the growth of an investment in shares, not a fixed interest rate.
What return should I assume?
That is your choice, and the calculator does not suggest one. Long-run stock market returns have varied widely by country and period, and any single year can be negative. Try a low, a middle and a high figure to see the range.
Why deduct zakat?
Zakat is paid every lunar year on invested wealth above the nisab, so it reduces what stays invested. Deducting 2.5% of the whole value is the cautious method; paying on long-term shares by the company's zakatable assets would usually be less.
Is this investment advice?
No. It is arithmetic on the figures you enter. Purindex does not recommend buying, selling or holding any security.
