Everything is calculated in your browser from the figures you enter; nothing is stored or sent. Scholars differ on some of these rules, so treat the result as a careful estimate and ask a qualified scholar for a personal ruling. Information only, not investment advice. Rules last checked 2 November 2026.

How the checker works

Each line is matched to a company in Purindex by ticker, or by name if no ticker matches. Where a ticker is listed on more than one exchange, pick the right one from the list. Add an amount after each holding to weight the result by value; otherwise each holding counts equally.

Statuses come from the Purindex screener under AAOIFI Shariah Standard No. 21 and are explained in the methodology. Open any company to see the ratios and the filing behind them.

Then purify and pay zakat

For compliant holdings that still earn a little interest, use the purification calculator. Once a year, work out what you owe with the zakat calculator.

Questions

How do I check if my portfolio is halal?
Check each holding against Shariah screening: a permissible core business and debt, cash and impermissible income below the limits. Paste your holdings above to see each company's Purindex status and what share of your portfolio passes.
Why are some holdings marked insufficient data?
Purindex shows a status only when it is backed by figures it can check, such as a company's SEC or ESEF filing. Companies whose financial statements are not yet loaded are marked insufficient data rather than guessed.
What should I do with a doubtful holding?
Doubtful means a ratio sits within 10% of its limit, so the company may fail at its next report. Many investors watch these closely or follow a scholar's advice on whether to keep them. Purindex does not recommend buying or selling.
Are ETFs and funds covered?
Not yet. The checker covers individual listed companies. Fund screening is planned.
Is my portfolio saved?
No. The list of companies is downloaded to your browser and matched there; what you paste is not sent or stored.
