Hijri calendar

Today's Hijri date, and your zakat day.

Today's date in the Islamic calendar, the next Ramadan and Eid, and the Gregorian dates your zakat falls due for the next five years.

Today in the Hijri calendar
—

Zakat falls due each lunar year on the Hijri date your wealth first reached the nisab, or the date you chose to calculate from. Many people use 1 or 27 Ramadan.

Dates follow the Umm al-Qura calendar. Where months begin with a local moon sighting, dates can differ by a day or two.

Everything is calculated in your browser from the figures you enter; nothing is stored or sent. Scholars differ on some of these rules, so treat the result as a careful estimate and ask a qualified scholar for a personal ruling. Information only, not investment advice. Rules last checked 2 November 2026.

Keep one zakat date

Zakat is owed when a full lunar year has passed on wealth above the nisab. The simplest way to keep track is one Hijri date each year: on that day, value what you own and pay 2.5% of it. Put the next five dates in your diary from the list above.

On the day, the zakat calculator works out what you owe on shares, funds, cash and gold, and the portfolio checker shows which holdings pass screening.

Questions

When is my zakat due?
Zakat is due once a lunar year has passed since your wealth first reached the nisab. Keep that Hijri date and pay each year when it comes round. If you do not know it, choose a date and keep to it; many people use a date in Ramadan.
Why does my zakat date move each year?
The Hijri year has about 354 days, 11 fewer than the Gregorian year, so a fixed Hijri date arrives about 11 days earlier on the Gregorian calendar each year.
Which Hijri calendar does this use?
The Umm al-Qura calendar used officially in Saudi Arabia. Countries and communities that begin each month with a local moon sighting can be a day or two different.
Can I pay zakat on a Gregorian date instead?
Some scholars allow it for convenience. Because the solar year is longer, the rate is then raised from 2.5% to about 2.577% so nothing is underpaid. The zakat calculator offers both.
